No More Sticking & Marks in PE Paper Cutting | CHM Solution

PE-coated paper
PE coated paper is a composite material made by extruding plastic resin onto the surface of paper through an extrusion coating process. Its key characteristics include oil resistance, water resistance (to a certain extent), and heat-sealability. Single-sided glazed white kraft paper with a basis weight of 30–60 gsm meets food packaging requirements and is widely used as the base paper for PE coated paper production. The glossy side is typically used for printing brand information and product designs, while the reverse side is coated with PE. After printing and PE coating, the paper is mainly used in food packaging applications, including food paper bags, food wrapping paper, and food liners, such as hamburger wrapping paper, fried dough stick (Youtiao) bags, fried food packaging bags, tray liners, and other food-grade packaging products.
During the cutting process, coated paper exhibits several typical “industry pain points,” mainly related to adhesion, slippage, heat, deformation, and inconsistent quality.
1. Tendency to Stick and Stringing Issues
Coated paper has a PE film on the surface, which can easily cause the following during high-speed cutting:
  • Blade sticking to the film
  • Stringing
  • Uneven or messy cuts
👉 These issues are especially pronounced at higher temperatures or when the blade is not sharp.
2. Uneven Cuts and Edge Burr Issues
Due to the relatively soft coating layer:
  • Tearing-type cutting can easily occur
  • The cut edge may not be sharp enough
  • Burrs or slight wrinkling may appear along the edges
3. Surface Roller Marks and Bright Spot Issues
The surface of coated paper is smooth and highly sensitive to pressure:
  • Roller marks
  • Bright spots
  • Indentations
👉 These issues are particularly significant for food packaging paper and high-end packaging paper.
4. Conveying Slippage and Tension Instability
The PE film has a low coefficient of friction, which can easily cause:
  • Slippage
  • Unstable conveying
  • Difficulty in tension control
👉 This can easily lead to misaligned cuts or dimensional errors.
5. Significant Static Electricity Issues
During high-speed operation, coated paper is prone to:
  • Electrostatic attraction
  • Paper sticking together
  • Uneven stacking
6. Uneven Stacking
Due to slippage, static electricity, and unstable tension:
  • Paper discharge/stacking is prone to misalignment
  • Poor “neat block” stacking effect
  • Difficulties in subsequent packaging operations

So, What Makes the CHM SGT1700 Capable of Solving the Key Challenges in PE-Coated Paper Slitting?
The answer lies in its comprehensive design, which integrates high-precision cutting, stable tension control, efficient web handling, and intelligent automation. These features directly address the most common pain points encountered during PE-coated paper slitting.
1. Dual Rotary Knife Technology for Clean and Smooth Cuts
One of the biggest challenges in slitting PE-coated paper is the tendency for the PE layer to stretch, stick, or tear during cutting.
The CHM SGT1700 adopts a high-precision dual rotary knife system, which provides a true shearing action rather than a tearing effect.
Benefits include:
  • Cleaner cut edges
  • Reduced burrs and edge fraying
  • Minimized film stretching and stringing
  • Improved edge quality for downstream processing
2.Precision Slitting Knives Reduce Dust and Material Waste
PE-coated paper requires extremely sharp and stable cutting tools. The SGT1700 can be equipped with premium slitting systems, including customized MAXCESS slitting knives, ensuring:
  • Higher cutting precision
  • Longer blade life
  • Reduced knife sticking
  • Lower material loss
This significantly improves finished product quality while reducing operating costs.
3. Advanced Tension Control for Stable Web Handling
Low friction on PE-coated surfaces often causes:
  • Web slippage
  • Tension fluctuations
  • Cutting deviation
  • Inconsistent roll quality
The SGT1700 features a highly responsive tension control system that maintains stable web tension throughout the entire slitting process.
Advantages include:
  • Improved dimensional accuracy
  • Consistent roll quality
  • Reduced web wandering
  • Better machine stability at high speeds
4. Reduced Surface Marks and Pressure Defects
PE-coated paper surfaces are highly sensitive to pressure. The SGT1700 is engineered with optimized web paths and precision roller control to minimize:
  • Roller marks
  • Bright spots
  • Surface indentations
This is particularly important for:
  • Food packaging paper
  • Premium packaging paper
  • High-end printing applications
5.Static Electricity Control
During high-speed operation, friction between the PE coating, rollers, air, and paper can generate significant static electricity, which may lead to:
  • Sheets sticking together
  • Uneven stacking
  • Unstable web handling
  • Reduced efficiency in downstream packaging processes
The CHM SGT1700 minimizes the impact of static electricity through an optimized web path, precise tension control, and stable high-speed operation. This ensures smoother material handling, neater winding and stacking, and improved overall production efficiency and product quality.
The CHM SGT1700 Paper Sheeter is more than just a Paper Roll to sheet cutting machine—it is a complete solution for PE-coated paper processing. By integrating dual rotary knife technology, a high-quality slitting system, precise tension control, stable high-speed operation, and intelligent design, it effectively addresses common challenges in PE-coated paper slitting, including stringing, edge burrs, slippage, indentations, static electricity, and winding quality issues.
Helping customers achieve higher productivity, superior product quality, and lower material waste, the CHM SGT1700 is a trusted high-end solution for PE-coated paper slitting applications.
